KTA Brings Youth Olympic Qualifier to Asia
Monday 8th January 2018 saw KTA Director Willy Kerr, joining the Kitesurf Association of Thailand (KAT) committee for the final sign-off of the Asian/Oceania Kiteboard Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Qualifier.
Only a year after hosting the sports first ever TTR Class regional youth championships, the IKA Moose Asian TTR Championship, the KTA and KAT will be bringing one of the 3 IOC Youth Olympic trials back to Pranburi in Thailand from the 13-18 March this year.
Kiteboarding will be showcased for the first time on the Olympic stage at the 2018 YOG in Buenos Aires using the new and exciting format first unveiled in Asia – IKA TTR BoarderX format.
The format is based on the successful Winter Olympic discipline of snowboard boardercross, where riders follow a set track with obstacles that they need to jump over. The format uses a multiple elimination rounds, with only the best riders advancing from round to round into the finals.
The qualifying riders from Asia and Oceania of 2 girls and 2 boys from each continent, will join the Olympic Kiteboarding fleet of 12 boys and 12 girls in Argentina from 6 -18 October 2018.
